“Idol Star Athletics Championships” To Not Be Held For 2021 Lunar New Year

The “Idol Star Athletics Championships” will be taking a break this upcoming Lunar New Year.

On December 11, MBC announced that the semiannual program will not be airing for the 2021 Lunar New Year holiday. With the recent increasing of confirmed COVID-19 cases in Korea, the social distancing level has risen to 2.5 in the Seoul metropolitan area. As the severity of the situation is expected to continue, the show has decided to not hold a recording as a preemptive safety measure.

MBC has held the “Idol Star Athletics Championships” twice a year for Lunar New Year and Chuseok over the past decade, and this will be the first time that the event will not have a Lunar New Year special since it started. This past Chuseok, the “2020 Idol Star eSports Championships” and the “2020 Idol Star Dog-agility Championships” were held as spin-off events.
